North of Salvador

RIBEIRA

ribeira4This quiet village which stretches along the Bay of All the Saints, has preserved its authentic environment. Not too far from  the Igreja (Church) de Bonfim on the  peninsula of Itapagipe in the lower city (cidade  baixa). The sights of Salavador from here are splendid with its magical colors. As the sun descends into the ocean the atmosphere is magical and the right time to taste an ice cold {caipirinha} the drink of Brazil. You can also enjoy many of the traditional seafood dishes such as roasted fish at any of restaurants along the stretch of beach. Sorveteria da Ribeira,  One of the two most popular and traditional ice cream in town; delicious tropical fruit sorbets and ice creams at reasonable prices. Largo da Ribeira, 87.Ribeira. Getting to Ribeira is easy by bus. Just take the Elevedor Lacerda in the Praça Municipal (very close to Pelourinho) down, get off, and walk to the bus stop directly in front of you. Buses going to Ribeira (with big signs on the front saying so) pass every several minutes. Ribeira is the end of the line. Now, getting back  by any bus, which passes through Comércio (or downtown, where the bottom of the Elevador Lacerda is located).

CACHOEIRA ET SÃO FÉLIX

cachoeirasaofelix2Cachoeira is a small quiet city tin the heart of Reconcavo Bahainais 120 km away from Salvador, nestled just next to the village Sao Felix. Famous for its historical heritage, but especially for its religious festivals know in Bahia for their African influenced magic ceremonies. During the XVI Cachoeira century little by little they acquired economic prosperity with the explosion of the sugar cane, tobacco, most importantly the cigar trade. Here you can take a stroll and see all the out dated stores with traditional clothing, and its white plastered churches along the stone paved streets.

 

 

Coast line, North of Salvador

PRAIA DO FORTE

praiadoforte6Praia Do Forte is located less than one hour north of Salvador de Bahia. At one time this was a small fishing village. Today it is going through a tourist explosion! You can relax along the its coconut lined beaches, visit the turtle reserve, shop at its many boutiques or have a meal at one of its many restaurants.

 

 

 

Coast line, South of Salvador

MORRO DE SÃO PAULO

morrodesaopaulo3A 2h30 boat ride away from the south of Salvador lies the island Tinhare. Indeed an island paradise, where its inhibitors only travel by foot or horse. What dream a car less island. With many pousadas to choose from, restaurants, shops, and bars you have no choice but to immerse yourself in its island culture. At the beach you can relax and soak up the sun, scuba dive or fish.

BARRA GRANDE
